In this community we call church.

Who we are…

We are a United Methodist congregation that was born out of a Methodist presence in Delta that goes back to 1893. The vibrancy and rigor of the faithful led to the construction of the First Methodist Episcopal Church building in 1910 in the Tudor Revival style designed by Samuel A. Bullard of Springfield, Illinois. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. A fire in 1993 destroyed most of the building but it was rebuilt and restored to its historic architecture and stained-glass windows and reopened for worship in 1995.

We are a vibrant worshipping community that seeks to make a difference whenever and wherever we can.

What we believe…

We believe in God - creator of life and ground of our being

We believe in Jesus Christ - who saves us from darkness and for the light

We believe in the Holy Spirit - that animates us toward actions that heal the world

Our Sacraments…

Holy Communion

- represents the Lord’s Supper (where Jesus and his disciples ate together for the last time and Jesus gave them his body, the bread of life, and his blood, the cup of salvation that they might disperse it and make disciples of all the world.

-represents the real presence of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit as two or more are gathered in his name.

-represents the celebration of the body of Christ - the communion of all the saints that were, that are, that will be.

Holy Baptism

Baptism in the United Methodist church is God’s word to us, proclaiming our adoption by grace. It is an acknowledgement of our forgiveness and acceptance that has already been accomplished by Jesus Christ. Baptized members are welcomed into the community of faith in the local congregation and the denomination of the United Methodist Church.
